The ASOC project aims to establish an Academic Security Operations Center – a novel model that unites scientific research, practical cybersecurity requirements, and education. While traditional SOCs are designed primarily for corporate or governmental environments, the Academic SOC creates a platform that combines research, teaching, and operational security practices.
In his presentation, Markus Klemen highlighted that ASOC is built on three core pillars:
- Research: Developing new methods for intrusion detection, automated analysis, and threat intelligence.
- Education: Providing students and early-career professionals with realistic, hands-on experience in a controlled yet authentic environment.
- Operational Security: Supporting real organizations – particularly educational institutions – in detecting and responding to security incidents.
Participation in the KuK Expert Conference offered SBA Research a valuable platform to strengthen dialogue with stakeholders from research, public administration, and industry. With ASOC, SBA Research is setting a forward-looking impulse in cybersecurity research and education.
