Software sustainability – a conversation with Philipp Reisinger

In this episode of the podcast Zukunft Denken, Alexander Schatten talked with Philipp Reisinger about the role of software in modern society. Philipp is an expert for organizational information security consulting at SBA Research, holds certification preparation trainings, and is a lecturer at St. Pölten University of Applied Sciences.

This episode addresses the impact of software failures – and why the virtual world behaves completely differently than the physical world. Alexander and Philipp introduce the concept of software sustainability, and discuss the unequal distribution of benefits and harms when elementary principles of sustainability are not met – giving numerous negative examples of poor quality and sustainability of essential digital infrastructure (e.g., airplane crashes, digital takeover of cars while driving, manipulation of elections by voting computers, and the massive hack of US infrastructure Solar Winds).
