Bernhard Garn @ 2nd IRDR Young Scientists Lumos
In June, our colleague Bernhard Garn, senior researcher at SBA Research, participated in the 2nd IRDR Young Scientists Lumos, a global pre-event to the 2025 Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction (GPDRR). Co-hosted by the Integrated Research on Disaster Risk (IRDR) and the U-INSPIRE Alliance, the online workshop focused on: “Localization of the Global Agenda: DRR Solutions from Young Professionals.”
Bernhard Garn presented on Enforcing Sequential Diversity in Disaster Scenario Generation.
Training exercises are an important tool in crisis management, assisting in a multitude of tasks. We presented a mathematical modeling approach for the automated generation of scenarios for disaster exercises via certain combinatorial sequence structures that will provide guaranteed sequential diversity in terms of event orderings, thereby contributing to disaster risk reduction.
In order to contribute to the 2025 Global Platform on Disaster Risk Reduction, IRDR co-organizes several online workshops with DRR partners to present the innovations of young professionals from multi-stakeholders.
Speakers from Iran, Austria, and India highlighted how youth-led efforts are translating global DRR frameworks into concrete, local action. Expert commentators provided valuable feedback, fostering an open and solution-oriented discussion.
