Caroline König @ Lange Nacht der Forschung
Our colleague Caroline König, researcher at SBA Research and research assistant at the CD-Lab AsTra took part in the CDG-Science-Slam and presented her research on software protection. Within just a few minutes, she gave attendees an entertaining and accessible look at the challenges of shielding software from analysis and tampering, a topic that has become increasingly critical in today’s security landscape.

Software protection aims to make programs resilient against reverse engineering and unauthorized modification. Caroline walked attendees through the core ideas behind Man-at-the-End (MATE) attacks and the techniques researchers at AsTra are developing to counter them. The event provided a great opportunity to engage directly with the public and communicate the relevance of our work to a broad audience.
About the Science Slam & Lange Nacht der Forschung
Current research is presented on stage in a compact, creative, and highly visual way, ranging from fish migration in modified rivers to data protection, from hot semiconductor chips to robot-assisted precision measurement.
The presenters must explain complex topics in a clear, entertaining, and concise manner. After 6 and 8 minutes, music signals that they should wrap up. In the end, the audience votes to decide who delivered the best mix of an interesting topic, clear explanation, and engaging presentation.
Lange Nacht der Forschung is Austria’s largest public science event, bringing together researchers and curious minds from across the country for an evening of talks, demonstrations, and hands-on exhibits. It takes place every two years across Austria, uniting universities, research institutions, and companies to showcase their work to the general public.
