Research internship / Forschungs-Praktikum in Machine Learning (students only) 28,5 hours/week

We are looking for a female student with completed/near completion of a Bachelor's degree or in a Master's program in the area of Mathematics / Computer Science / Data Science. The internship will be in the research areas of the Machine Learning and Data Management Group (https://www.sba-research.org/research/research-groups/mldm/), and thus focus on robust and secure machine learning  (e.g. defences against adversarial attacks), privacy-preserving machine learning (e.g. Federated Learning, Synthetic data generation, or using Secure Multi-party Computation, homomoprhic encryption or Differential Privacy to protect data in the machine learning process), the protection of intellectual property rights of machine learning assets (e.g. watermarking of models), or employing machine learning for security purposes, e.g. detecting malware or intrusions. As we are in close contact with national and international corporations, SMEs, start-ups, universities, and technical colleges, our team has a wide-ranging technical know-how. SBA Research therefore offers an interesting environment to gain first research and professional experience.

This internship is aligned with the requirements and framework of the FEMtech program of FFG.

Responsibilities:

• Analyzing and evaluating robustness and security in machine learning, advancing privacy-preserving machine learning methods, developing novel protection methods for the intellectual property of machine learning assets
• Select and adapt frameworks for ML that are suitable for use in research.
• Practical evaluation of the selected frameworks on benchmark datasets.
• Continuous development of your Machine Learning knowledge and skills.

Requirements:

• Ongoing bachelor's or master's degree program in computer science, data science, physics, earth sciences, mathematics or equivalent at an Austrian university
• Basic knowledge in machine learning, as well as interest in security of machine learning, privacy-preserving methods, or machine learning IP protection.
• Friendly personality in combination with a quick comprehension
• Reliable, proactive and independent way of working
