is a medical oncologist at the Center of Hematology and Medical Oncology, Wilhelminenspital, Wien and a key researcher at SBA Research.
Kathrin is the medical lead of the project “Semantische Suche” run by the Clinical Research Center of Wiener Krankenanstaltenverbund. The goal of this project is to extract data (diagnoses, medication, services etc.) from unstructured electronic medical records by a software tool. The retrieved information is turned into structured data to be used for research and controlling purposes. Since medial records contain sensitive information, information security is a key requirement.
Kathrin has graduated from the University of Vienna as an MD in 1999 and has completed an MBA in healthcare management at WU Wien. She has trained as a medical oncologist at Wilhelminenspital, Wien, where she has been working for the past 18 years. As a senior resident, she is currently responsible for breast and gynecological malignancies.
Her main clinical areas of interest are breast cancer and gynecological oncology, where she has explored predictive and prognostic markers of hormone sensitive breast cancer, focusing on aspects of global cancer care, in a longstanding cooperation with the Breast Cancer Center of the Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston.
