Successful Kick-off for the 1st Shecurity Summer School in Vienna!

From September 19 to 21, around 65 talented and curious women and FINTA* immersed themselves in the exciting world of cybersecurity at the University of Vienna. This continuing education and networking program is unique in Europe and is designed to make it easier to enter and advance in IT security.

This year’s Shecurity Summer School offered a wide-ranging professional program with half-day workshops and expert lectures on topics such as Digital Forensics, OT Security, Pentesting, and regulatory frameworks. In addition to hands-on sessions, insightful keynotes, networking opportunities, and an informative visit to Parliament rounded off the program. Edgar Weippl, University Professor and Head of the Security and Privacy Research Group at the University of Vienna, opened the Summer School and warmly welcomed the participants.

More Diversity in Cybersecurity
The cybersecurity industry urgently needs more diversity. With the Shecurity Summer School, we are creating a unique opportunity to get a taste of security over three days, deepen professional knowledge, and become part of a growing community. I am very pleased that Vienna is taking on a pioneering role here,” said Stephanie Jakoubi, Chairwoman of the Shecurity Initiative and member of the management board at SBA Research.

The Summer School was organized by SBA Research, Shecurity, and the University of Vienna in cooperation with CSA Cybersecurity Austria. Whether a career starter or an experienced professional – every participant was able to expand her skills and strengthen her position in this forward-looking field.

The Shecurity Summer School 2025 was a unique opportunity to gain practical insights into current cybersecurity topics – compact, inspiring, and excellently organized. Formats like this help give women the courage and enthusiasm to find their way into IT security – while at the same time fostering valuable exchange within the community for the further journey into cybersecurity,” reported Martina Leitner-Schidlo, Data Protection Manager and participant.

The speakers also found it to be an impressive experience. “For me as a lecturer, the Shecurity Summer School was something very special: a highly interested, engaged audience and a fantastic format,” said Andreas Tomek, Cyber & DFIR Lead Partner at KPMG Austria, enthusiastically.

Strong Support from Partners
The premiere was strongly supported by ISACA Austria Chapter, CSA Cybersecurity Austria, Erste Bank, Bawag Group, FH St. Pölten, Ferdinand Porsche FERNFH, NVISO, SANS Institute, ISC2 Chapter Austria, Cert.at, and Ströck. All of them contribute to ensuring that the Shecurity Summer School will have a lasting impact as a new platform for empowerment and further education.
