The “die IT-Tag” makes the diversity of the IT world visible

On December 9, 2025, 260 IT role models visited 90 schools across Austria, led inspiring workshops in more than 200 classrooms.

This year, the “die IT-Tag” once again pursued a clear goal: to inspire young people – especially girls – to take an interest in IT, to break down stereotypes, remove barriers, and make female role models visible. The initiative also sends a strong message that the digital future is open to everyone, and that girls and young women have a central role to play in shaping it.

The day was dedicated entirely to dialogue: experts from a wide range of IT fields exchanged ideas with around 4,000 students in the 3rd and 4th years of AHS and MS schools, shared their personal career paths, and dispelled prejudices about IT across Austria. The students gained hands-on insights and discovered how diverse and creative the IT world can be.

Stephanie Jakoubi, founder of SheDigital and part of the management team at SBA Research, emphasizes the impact of the format: “Reaching more than 4,000 students this year clearly shows how important it is to bring role models directly into schools. Our mission is to make the diversity of IT visible and to encourage girls in particular.

Vienna city councilor Marina Hanke highlights the importance of early inspiration: “Every girl who discovers IT for herself today can fundamentally reshape the digital world tomorrow. We just have to give them the space to do so.

Sandra Heissenberger, Deputy CIO of the City of Vienna and patron of SheDigital, underscores the future-oriented nature of the initiative: “IT offers young people a future, security, and countless opportunities for development. That is exactly what this day is meant to convey.

Sabine Seidler, professor at TU Wien and STEM representative for the City of Vienna, sees the “die IT-Tag” as an important contribution to destigmatizing technical careers: “The ‘die IT-Tag’ dispels the cliché that IT careers are only for ‘nerds’ and shows female students what a user-friendly, inclusive, and innovative digital future – shaped by themcan look like.

Eveline Kasik from MA01 Vienna Digital speaks from a practical perspective:
I want to show how creative, collaborative, and meaningful IT jobs can be. Many girls don’t even know that their talents are needed precisely here.
