AI5innovation – Test Before Invest Project with Infotech
Infotech is an IT systems provider and Internet service provider headquartered in Ried im Innkreis. Founded in 1993, the company offers products and services in the field of information and communication technologies. The IT systems provider has many years of expertise in networking and server environments, maintains its own network of lines, and offers consulting, analysis, planning, implementation, and maintenance of IT and communications solutions. Infotech offers its services in the B2B sector throughout Austria and beyond. In addition, Infotech provides reliable Internet services, landline telephone service, and interactive IPTV for residential customers in the region.
As part of a “Test before Invest” project in AI5innovation, SBA Research and Infotech have jointly explored whether AI language models can support penetration testing of the company’s environments. Because of the far-reaching security rules, only locally hosted open-source models were evaluated, advising security experts rather than acting on their own. The models did provide support, but rarely identified the next test step themselves. Further tests with larger models and integration into regular testing processes are recommended.

What is a “Test before Invest”?
A “Test before Invest” is a small-scale project focused on digitalization that an EDIH AI5innovation partner carries out for a company. The scope of these projects ranges from €30,000 to €40,000. The “Test before Invest” includes two training sessions: a technology training session at the start of the project and an “on-site training” session at the end of the project. The costs are 100% funded by the European Commission and the FFG.
AI5innovation offers companies free access to the infrastructure and expertise of the consortium, which includes pilot plants, centers of excellence, research institutes, universities, and industry partners. The EDIH covers nearly all areas related to digitalization in manufacturing. Together with the respective company, challenges are addressed and customized solutions are developed.
