Presented by the PeaceTech Alliance, the AIT Austrian Institute of Technology is honored to co-host with SBA Research a special event:
Join us for “Hiroshima’s Message for Tech Students and Innovators Today”, featuring Setsuko Thurlow, a Japanese–Canadian nuclear disarmament campaigner who survived the atomic bombing of Hiroshima on 6 August 1945. In 2017, she co-accepted the Nobel Peace Prize on behalf of the International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons (ICAN) and has since remained an impactful advocate for nuclear disarmament and non-proliferation.
As universities and research institutions continue to shape the future of emerging technologies, this event creates space for critical reflection on the societal and ethical responsibilities connected to innovation. Ms. Thurlow reflects on her experiences through her thought provoking keynote, followed by the screening of “The Vow from Hiroshima”.
Bringing together students, researchers, innovators, and policy experts, the event encourages interdisciplinary dialogue on the role of science and technology in promoting peace, security, and human dignity. It aims to inspire critical thinking about dual-use technologies, ethical innovation, and the responsibilities of future generations working at the intersection of technology and society.
