Volkmar Lotz

Volkmar Lotz

is member of the Scientific Board of SBA Research and senior research manager and research strategy lead at SAP Security Research.

Research Interests

Volkmar’s current research interests include service security, data-centric Security, security engineering, formal methods and compliance. Furthermore, he is responsible for representation of SAP in stakeholder discussions on European cyber-security regulations and certifications contributing to European-level work groups on security research agendas. He is also SAP project lead for the EU funded project SPARTA (a pilot project for the European Cybersecurity Competence Centre and Network).


Volkmar has more than 25 years experience in industrial research on Security and Software Engineering. He is heading SAP’s Security Research division, a team of senior researchers and strategists, responsible for SAP’s global security research strategy in alignment with SAP’s business strategy and global research trends.

Volkmar has published numerous scientific papers in his area of interest and is regularly serving on Programme Committees of internationally renowned conferences. He has been supervising various European projects, including large-scale integrated projects. He holds a diploma in Computer Science from the Technical University TU Kaiserslautern.
