is key researcher at SBA Research and Distinguished Professor of Industrial & Systems Engineering at the University of Florida.

His recent research interests include network design problems, optimization in telecommunications, e-commerce, data mining, biomedical applications, and massive computing.


Bio

Panos M. Pardalos earned his Ph.D. from the University of Minnesota in 1985.

He serves as distinguished professor of industrial and systems engineering at the University of Florida. Additionally, he is the Paul and Heidi Brown Preeminent Professor of industrial and systems engineering. Panos M. Pardalos is also an affiliated faculty member of the Computer & Information Science & Engineering Department, Biomedical Engineering Department, McKnight Brain Institute, University of Florida Informatics Institute, the Genetics Institute and Warren B. Nelms Institute. Further, he is the director of the Center for Applied Optimization, University of Florida and a world leading expert in global and combinatorial optimization. In 2021, he got elected as Foreign Member of the Academia Europaea.

Panos M. Pardalos worked on the following research projects, among others: NRI: INT: COLLAB: High Throughput Multi-Robot Weed Management for Specialty Crop. National Robotic Initiative (NRI), Nasional Research Foundation (NSF)/USDA, duration: 04/01/2020 – 03/31/2024, NIH-NIGMS RO1 “Precision and Intelligent Systems in Medicine Partnership”, duration: 2016 – 2019, and UF Informatics Institute (UFII) Seed Fund for “Data Science Techniques for Studying Patient-Specific Risk Assessment for Acute Kidney Injury”, duration: 2016 – 2017.

He received the following awards, among others: Distinguished Alumni Award, Computer Science & Engineering, University of Minnesota, 2019; Humboldt Research Award, 2018-2019; University of Florida Chapter Sigma Xi Senior Faculty Research Award for 2017; Constantin Caratheodory Prize, 2013; and EURO Gold Medal (EGM), 2013.
