Establishing Workplace Diversity through Organisational Knowledge

SBA Research recognizes that diverse perspectives are key to the success of research and innovation, particularly in the field of cybersecurity. As digitalization advances and new technologies evolve rapidly, new application areas, requirements and threat scenarios constantly emerge. Cybersecurity is not only a technical challenge, but is also significantly influenced by human factors. Security incidents often result from human error, different patterns of technology use or insufficient consideration of the needs of diverse user groups during technology development.

With the project EWOK – Establishing Workplace Diversity through Organisational Knowledge, SBA Research builds on the measures developed in the Fem4CyberSec project and expands them into a comprehensive, organization-wide DEI strategy. At its core is an intersectional approach that recognizes how different dimensions of diversity, such as gender, age, ethnicity, socioeconomic background, disability, and sexual orientation, interact to shape individuals’ experiences and opportunities for participation.

Specifically, EWOK pursues the following objectives:

• sustainably strengthening DEI competencies across the organization through targeted training and awareness-raising activities tailored to different target groups;
• complement, further develop, and implement selected measures from the women’s career development plan established in the Fem4CyberSec project; and
• enhance employer branding and community building by creating a dedicated careers website, expanding the alumni network, and strengthening collaboration with other research institutions and relevant stakeholders.

Through these activities, EWOK contributes to the long-term integration of diversity, equal opportunities, and inclusion into SBA Research’s organizational structures, thereby creating the institutional conditions necessary for excellent, innovative, and socially impactful cybersecurity research.
